Activities & Excursions

Things to do at our campsite

At Flaten’s Campsite, the experience begins the moment you wake up. Here you are surrounded by peace, nature, and a sense of freedom – with the lake, forest, and adventure right outside your door. Take a morning swim, rent a canoe and glide across the water, go fishing in the evening sun, or simply sit back and enjoy the calm surroundings.

Canoeing

Here you can paddle a canoe along the beautiful canal and experience nature from the water. Choose a peaceful trip towards Hillerstorp or head towards Marieholm through the scenic canal. A perfect activity for families, couples, and friends who want to combine relaxation with a sense of adventure. You can rent canoes and life jackets from us.

Play mini golf

Enjoy a round of classic mini golf with family and friends at the campsite.

Swimming

Our swimming area is popular and suitable for all ages. The lake has shallow water, which is especially appreciated by families with children. There is also a pier extending into the water with a ramp, making it easier for guests with limited mobility to take a swim. Wheelchairs adapted for bathing are also available to borrow.

Fish in the Lake

Lake Flaten has very shallow shores, and its deepest point is 9 metres. Lake Flaten and Lake Mosjön are connected by the scenic Marieholm Canal, which runs from Marieholm via Flaten to Hillerstorp. Lake Mosjön’s shores are not quite as shallow and it has a maximum depth of around 10 metres.

Nature to explore nearby

Surrounding Flaten’s Campsite is a landscape that offers both tranquillity and breathtaking views. Here you’ll find deep forests, sparkling lakes, and open countryside that invite you to go hiking, cycling, and enjoy spontaneous excursions.

Lindestubbeleden

The Lindestubbe Trail is a nature trail that follows forest paths in the landscape north of the Skärvån River. It is 5.5 kilometres long and runs through hilly terrain. The trail starts on the outskirts of Marieholm.

Saxhytteleden

The Saxhytte Trail is approximately 3 kilometres long. It runs through a cultural and historical landscape where the old dam still remains today. The trail is hilly and follows a gravel path that is easy to walk along. Parking is located between Marieholm and Skärvhult; turn off at the sign for “Saxhyttan.”

Skärsjöberget

Hiking trail up to the Skärsjöberget viewpoint. The trail is steep in sections and may at times be blocked by fallen trees. The surrounding old-growth forest is also very difficult to pass through due to a large number of fallen trees.

Store Mosse Nationalpark

It is one of the largest wetland areas in southern Sweden and offers a unique nature experience all year round. Here you can hike along trails through open bogs, deep forests, and magical viewpoints.

Visit the visitor centre to learn more about the area, watch for birdlife, or take a break at one of the scenic viewpoints that give a true sense of wilderness – even though you are in Småland. Perfect for both short excursions and full-day adventures in peaceful and majestic nature.

Höglandsleden

A scenic hike through Småland’s varied landscape. The trail passes through dense forests, open meadows, and along gently flowing streams. Along the way, you will also pass several culturally and historically interesting sites that reflect the area’s industrial heritage. The terrain is varied, with both easy-to-walk paths and more hilly sections.

Our personal tips – make the most of your stay

We’ve picked out some of our personal favourite excursions for you

Experience Store Mosse the way we do

Bike from us to Södra Svänö, where you can start the Kävsjön loop hike, which takes around 3–4 hours. Make a detour at Östra Rockne for a refreshing swim in Svartgölen.

Cycle or drive to Kittlakull and hike either the Lilla Lövö trail or the Lövö loop. If you have more time, you can also do the Blådöpet loop. Here you’ll experience everything from beautiful forest landscapes to wilderness and true raised bog terrain.

If you want to avoid the crowds, don’t start at Naturum—look for the smaller parking areas instead. The southern parts of the national park are generally the quietest.

Antons favourites

Store Mosse is of course a must-visit, but there are many more exciting places to explore in the area. Take your bike or hike parts of the Höglandsleden trail. If you’re into mountain biking, cross Mässeberg and join the trail towards either Skillingaryd or Åsafors, continuing all the way to Åsenhöga. There are also many beautiful gravel roads that will take you back to the campsite.

Don’t miss Isaberg, located about 20 minutes from us. Here you’ll find everything from high ropes courses to challenging cycling trails. Or simply let the kids enjoy the playground and grab a meal before heading back to our campsite.

Johanna’s tips

For a smaller family adventure, head to Kacklesjön and climb Skärsjöberget. This is not suitable for very young children, as it requires some climbing and a bit of courage. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy it at the top.

Planning to go running or cycling? Just ask me for directions! I’ve explored many miles both on bike and on foot and can recommend both short and long routes.

There are also plenty of nice cafés and restaurants around us. Take the scenic backroads via Stengårdshult and Valdshult to Eriksson Cottage, or visit Vaggeryds Gårdscafé.
